Where do I start to put a simple CD player and four speakers in a '92 chev 1500?  I need to know just about everything from running a power wire and what to use.  Help would be apreciated.

You need a wire harness. Go to your local dealer and ask them for a wire harness for your truck. You'll need a dash kit too get that while your there. Take the wire harness and your new CD player. Simply match the like colored wires. Remove the old tape deck (I'm assuming) replace that part of the dash with the dash kit and plug your new harness into the existing oneand your done. As for the speakers just pop the two front ones in using the existing wire. The rear are a bit difficult if I remember correctly. You'll have do some dissasembly.

as for the rear speakers, go to your local parts store and pick up a tool to pry the door panels off for the front doors, this tool will help for the rear to . first thing is to remove the center plastic piece on the roof, be carful this is easly broken. then remove the center piece just belov the window. now remove each side panels and take out the speakers and pop the other ones in.

If you look under the driver's side dash left of the ash tray, you'll see the tuner box for the radio.  Remove this, and you'll be able to get to the harnesses you need.  Use an adapter harness like the others have recommended.  You'll need to fish this, and the antenna over to the opening for the kit (air vents).  You can get a pocket to go where the old radio controls were.  Have fun getting at the rear speakers.  Unless you're lucky, and they just have the speaker covers that pop right off.
My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
