ok i have searched the forums and i couldn't find the answer to my question.

i have 2 jl audio 12"w6 dual 6ohms 300 watt RMS each. i am looking for an amp that can run these two subs. if i run them in series it will result in 3 ohms. and if in parallel it would be 1.5ohms (correct me if im wrong)i been looking for some different types of amps and they are the jbl bp600.1 rated at 600w @ 2ohms. how many ohms should i setup my subs ? 1.5 or 3ohms? and one more question, will any amp that is rated at 2 ohms xxxwatts work with that setup also? thanks

your resistance is wrong....if you run them in parallel form the 2 subs in parralel  will still have a 6 ohm load.....if you run the 2 subs in series you will have a 3 ohm load......If you are using DVC  (dual voice coil) subs    you can wire each sub to 6 ohms or 3 ohms.......thus giving you  a 6 ohm a 3 ohm or a 1.5 ohm load

(2) 6ohm subs in series are a 3 ohm load

(2) 3 ohm subs in series are a 1.5 ohm load

(2) 6 ohm subs in parallel are a 6 ohm load

(2) 3 ohm subs in parallel are a 3 ohm load

still haven't my question, if an amp is rated 600watts at 2 ohms. and if my speakers were 300watt each @ 6 ohms. what would be the best way to wire up my speakers to the amp. series/parallel? thanks a bunch

Jonjon1 you are correct with the ohm load config. I have my 2 12w6 hooked up in a parallel config. giving me a 1.5 load on a ps series kenwood. Not the best amp but I was surprised with the remarkable pounding sound that it gave me. I have heard good things with that JBL amp that you are talking about. I have not heard that particular one, but it should work out just fine. I had a couple of Orions that were stolen but they were great! They went as low as a .25 ohm load stable. So answering the other question if you had more subs with one amp depending on all you had ofcourse then I would hook it up in series. If only two subs then I would use parallel.

No problem glad to help.

You will put some stress on the amp but not much!

I wouldn't go below the manufactures recomended resistance.  When you check it with a multimeter you'll notice that the subs will actually pull less than 3 or the 1.5 ohms. If you wire them in series pulling a 1.5 ohm load look for an amp that can handle atleast 1 ohm.  Or if you go in parallel try a power bd500
