Fading Domelight

i have a 91 blazer and was wondering how/where i would wire a capacitor or if thats even what i would use, to make my domelight fade out like on some newer cars when the door is closed or the light is turned off. thanks for your replies.

A capacitor has nothing to do with it. You need some sort of electronic variable resistor. Something like that.

Also if you put a fade like this it will false the alarm system when armed right after you exit the car.

but dont most alarms have some sort of delay time for cars with this feature and so the car can settle? i have a python 1500esp. but could anyone tell me how i would go about doing it anyways? i dont see how a capacitor wouldnt work. thanks for your replies.

Your application may vary but I was told by the dealer that the dimming domelight on a 2000 focus is part of the illumination control module. Perhaps someone somewhere has a wiring diagram of this part so we can all see how to do it. Hope that helps somewhat. :)

I have also been wondering how these fading domelights work. I was just thinking about getting whatever circuitry makes it happen out of a vehicle that has it, and then install it in my 92 Toyota truck. Would that not be the easiest way to do this?

I've been looking to do the same thing.  I'm surprised there just isnt some sort of module that you can buy from Radio Shack or something.  I can see why you would want to use a cap, and I'm also wondering why placing a small cap on there wouldnt work.

PS: The schematics were on point as well I think I 'll try fade away type circuit in my car as well.
