Ok, I am moving onto another gauge pod project.  This one has a 3/16" thick peice of wood for the face.  It will cover the opening in my over head shelf it.

I want to wrap the wood in FG to strength it and so I can get a particular shape and finish.  HOW IN THE HECK do you get the FG mat to stay on the edges?

I ended up doing the front and cutting off access, then sanding.  It may be strong enough like that for what I want with out having to do the back side as well.

Thanks for the input!

Try spraying the wood with adhesive, 3M makes some good adhesives, then stick the mat to the wood, let it dry for a while. Then proceed with the resin.

Duhhh, yes that makes sense.  I knew that, guess gotta open garage door more often!

Well I moved ahead with only one side glassed, got the bondo on and all shaped, and got 2 coats of paint on it.  Seems pleny strong to hold gauge so I will quite there.  I may change it down the road and now I know how to get the glass to stay on the edges!

Thanks,

OK got it done!

FG only on one side worked out fine.  Plenty strong.  Several coats of Body Filler for shaping and all is good!  Sorry for the oversized pic!

Thanks, and yes I do like gauges!

They are mounted in a 96 F250 Powerstroke Diesel.   You can alos see a 97 in the garage, diesel also.  I am a diesel nut!

My next project is building a FG mount for DVD and screen for the truck in the garage.

All the gauges...

Boot PSI, Exhaust Gas Temp, Trans Temp, Oil PSI and Temp, Fuel Pressure,  Water Temp, Air Pressure (on board compressor) and vacuum.

9 total for now.  Trying to design one to monitor High Pressure oil that runs the injectors.

I still have the other half of this shelf unit to do something with, since I can not see it from drivers side, will have to be something for passenger.

Looks good but future advice: I've seen the fg resin break down the spray adhesive before it actually hardens and it makes it a PITA to do then. But looks like it did great in your application.

In the other side you could put an altimeter and a barometer.
