I got a pair of infinity component speakers and one of the speakers has a ugly dent in it. I wonder how bad will this affect the sound of the speakers. Can this be repaired?
Thanks all

the dustcap is dented, thats not a problem tho, i can pop it back out. The dent i'm concerned about is about 1/3 of the way down from the surround. the cone is slighty warped because of this but no holes thru it. The basket is in perfect shape. This speaker has seen a ruff shipping ride.
any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

You need to contact the shipping company and let them know about the damages. They should let you send it back to them for inspection and if they damaged it they will replace it for you.

I would say as long as it it's not preforated it should be fine, no problem with SQ. if you are really concerned return it for a new one if possible. is the outer rinr of the basket where the surround connects to tru or is it warped?

thanks for the info supradude, i got these speakers for dirt cheap from someone local that had ordered them on e-bay about 1yr ago, he never put any claim for it unfortunately. Because of the look of the speaker he didn't want to put it in his car. He basicly just sold me the package he got. The crossovers and tweeters are in mint shape so for the price i got them, even if the mid range speakers are too busted to use i still have tweeters for cheaper than what they sell used on e-bay. I just hope those speakers work cause they are so sweet ! (Kappa perfect 6.1)

no, the basket is in perfect shape, it's just the cone that's warped just a little, prob because of the impact that created the dent. Surround is not perfectly round where the dent is because of the slight warp in the cone but it's not kinked or anywhere close to kinking.

only way to know for sure is to hook it up and see. I'd call the shipping company and have them compensate you though. Its their fault, you have to live to with it.
