went to best buy to get the dash kit for my brother's 96' tauraus.the guy starts telling me i should have a pro install it, i said no thanks, ive done enough installs i think i can handle it. he said "well ive done hundreds of installs and ide never attempt this one". so i then said "well then i guess my nuts are bigger then yours, now can i please get my kit?"
so he walks away and has someone else help me, who said it was tough, i said i dont care....so i got the part and was on my way, got home and started the install. needless to say, are these people on crack? this was easy as hell, i dont get what these people thought was so tough. all i had to do was run the wires and ant. wire to the trunk and pop in the kit....lol either way ford sucks for making this design....
but yeah that was my funny install story for the weekend...
you guys have any simular things happen to you at best buy or circuit city, or the like?

Scare Tactics.....I had the same thing happen to me with my friends Escort (Same kit as the Taurus Minus the long cables) I was doing it on my own time and we went to a shop and got the kit and the guy did everything in his power to get me to let them do it cuz It was SOOOO HARD.....I told him I had been doing this for 5 yrs and he was still like You need to take it to a pro...

I dont get it sometimes...Why scare people...That just makes them not want to do it at all...

lol i think he tried a little too hard, i was starting to get pissed even. and when i got the kit home, the lock on the drivers side of the kit was broke off. so i had to security screw it in. but i thought that was bulsh*t we paid 72$ for the kit and it was broken... at least i got it going though.now i just have to pick up some relays to make the stereo stay on until the door opens lol.

I had a guy at futureshop tell me that the rockford fosgate 6.5" coax (the ones they have for like $100 were better and a wise upgrade I could make over my infinity kappa components.
Told me that those rockfords were the best speaker anyone could buy.. I then proceeded to ask him if rockford gave him the best commision,he wouldn't comment on it but his co-worker said yes :)

we had a guy come to the shop asking why his amp would shut off when he revved it up. he said bust buy installed it. we checked the remote and it was tapped into the fuel pump wire which has a variable voltage output, depending on RPMs. needless to say he was not satisfied with best buy.

give a kid a test light and you never know what will happen. next thing you know they will be wrapping wire around a fuse in the fuse panel (i had to fix a couple of those home jobs too).

I have seen several of the home jobs on those escorts/tracers come in with the air mix knobs busted all to hell.  I guess the guys at BB figured since it is a bit more complicated than the plug n play units on most other cars you would have trouble with it.  I'll usually ask once for the install, but if you're sure you can do it, I'll let ya.  I figure if you think you can, then you can't, you'll come back and I'll get the original install charge plus the charge to fix whatever was screwed up by the home "expert"  I'm sure we've all seen our share of 'interesting' humorous and just plain dangerous home installs.
Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.
