Hey guys,
i did a r/s on an 01 silverado this weekend and i hooked up the white 2nd ignition wire..   im guessing the wire didnt make that great of a connection or came undone cause the guy i did it for told me the truck is now shifting hard. i told him no long to remote start it and i'd look at it this weekend.   I'm hoping its only the white wire that caused it..   for anyone thats done this truck, the white 2nd ignition wire was smaller than the rest of the itnition wires correct? like 14 or 16 guage as compared to the 12 gauge the rest of the wires are?   just looking for any input it could be besides the white wire.

he said that it doesnt shift hard when its not remote started so, i'll do some more snooping around.. the white wire i powered was with the rest of the ignition wires so. i didnt see any more white wires.. have to look again more closely if im having any problems ill drop ya a line after fri.. but im gonna take it for a test run first so.. we'll see

Another possiblity, maybe the jumper on the starter unit setting was set to 2nd starter instead of 2nd ignition.

Or it could be set to Accessory which would drop out during crank and come back on after start which would not be good. Check the jumper like thepencil said.

Depending if you are using a unit with a built in second ignition or have to use an external relay, the relay could also have an issue of not powering up the second wire.  So, you may also just want to test this circuit and make sure that it is receiving power during r/s.  I had a unit that had a bad relay and, even though I had it hooked up right, it was not giving any power to the circuit during r/s.  It was kind of a nightmare to find.  But, I replaced the unit and everything was good.

turned out to be the damn relay ribbon for the viper 160xv,   when mouunting and running wires it came out ever soo slightly and the side that came out was for the 2nd ignition.. the connetion was perfect so i was like wtf.. saw that, and realized it was that simple..   all good now!!
