I asked this a few months ago, but I can't find the original thread.

I am 99% done with my fiberglass enclosure. I wasn't looking for a painted look, more of a padded vinyl look, same color as the rest of the interior; sorta like a stock lock. My idea was to get very thin padding, strechable vinyl, and 3M contact spray. I was going to spray the box with 3M, and one side of the padding with 3M, and lay the padding. After that dried, I was going to spray the top side of the padding, and the vinyl.. and lay the vinyl over the padding. My question is, when I stretch the vinyl, won't that rip the padding as i'm working it into the curves and whatnot?.

I definately want to use padding, and definately want to use vinyl. I'm just afraid the heat forming vinyl will pull up the padding. Will it work?.

If not, are there any places online that sell vinyl with padded backs?

as long as the padding is laid good you shouldnt have any problems. dont spare the glue.

if you do this id go with 3m #90 Heavy Duty, rather tan their Super 77. I just recently used Super 77 to vinyl a fiberglass box with alot of curves on it and was pretty sure i coated both sides of the vinyl pretty dan good, but it is pulling up now in the concave areas and looks like sh*t...i need to cut the vinyl now, pull it up, and re-apply. i think im gonna go with #90 this time

The #90 is a superior product IMO. Also, if there are any areas that won't be seen, but you can wrap the padding around, try some hot glue there in addition to the spray glue. Also, I'm looking for a reson to try it out myself, so I will recommend it to you. Flocking. If you don't know what it is, do a search, there is a thread about it. It will come out looking like sued but there is no need to strectch anything. Just thought I'd bring it up.

The real question is how complex are the curves? And how much heat and stretching are you going to have to use?
