Does anyone happen to know how to program a key for a 2001 Grand Cherokee?  It has the key with the chip in it. i had to get a spare key for it and now it needs to be programmed.

Also, does anyone have a wiring diagram for this vehicle?

Appreciate any info. Thanx.

I have a 2001 Jeep GC and I reprogrammed a spare key. Talk to your dealer FIRST, there is a proceedure of putting in the good key and turning it on, then off, then installing the new key and turning it on within so many seconds. If you do it wrong you could disable your Jeep and will have to have it towed. You have 3 chances then it locks up! I came close to it once and the Jeep will start and then just quit with the security light blinking. The dealer will tell you how to do it for free, don't take a chance on messing it up. They already made their money when they screwed out of $40 for the spare key!

you  need 2 good keys to program a 3rd

1 insert 1st key start and let run 5 seconds remove key

2 within 10 seconds insert second key start and let run 5 seconds

3 insert blank key turn to run wait 5 seconds  then start.

if you do dnot have 2 good keys coded then you have to bring it to the dealer they will plug it in to the drbIII scan tool and with the skim code program it in.

99-up Grand Cherokee Sentry Key programming
DO NOT "START" engine...
1. Insert original key #1 into ignition and turn to On
2. Wait 5 seconds and turn key to off
3. Immediately insert original key # 2 into ignition and turn to on
4. Wait 10 seconds until the SKIS indicator in dash starts to flash
5. Turn ignition off, insert new blank key and turn ignition back on
6. Once SKIS light stops flashing and turns off, your new key is programmed
