I just bought this hu.

CDA-9851    new for 2005

i know its not tthe highest quality from alpine's line but considering i have seen it for $270 american, i couldn't resist paying only $280 canadian for it.  i consider it a pretty good score.

But here is the question.

is it better to set the crossover for my subs on the amp, or should i set it from the hu. will it make any difference which way i go.

i was thinking of just turning the crossover on the amp all the way up, and just setting it between 80 - 100hz on the hu.

thanks

kingpin

set the low pass frequency on amp the same as low pass frequency (sub-out) on HU.

I've found that the X-overs on the Alpine decks aren't quite as good as the ones on a high quality amp. What kind of amp do you have?

I have read somewhere on this site to not stack crossovers.    I'm not sure why though.
Also, tcss, what makes an active crossover good or bad?

I have an Alpine CDA-9831. I set the cross-overs on the HU to zero and used the amp's (Polk Carbon C400.4) because it had a variable cross-over. The HU had a selectable cross-over (two or three points you can select). I felt the amp's cross-over gave me more and finer tuning options.
