ok so i'm trying to install my friends cd player, its a BOSE and the car currently had some after-market cassette player in it. They appeared to be the same size and the cd player fits but it sticks out about a half an inch(which doesnt bother my friend too much but i don't want the thing to get stolen). We think it is this screw in the back which is really long for some reason and it is hitting this metal rod in the back.

The car is a 97 Ponitac Grand AM, i'm wondering what the options are? the screw is held in by a nut so i dont know if i could actually remove it and were not even sure if it is the screw but something is blocking the cd player from going in. I was thinking about cutting the screw off but i'm trying not to mess with the HU at all(for warranty)

Also the antenna adapter fell into the cd player compartment and wherever that leads, i'm the electrical guy so i'm a little hesitant about removing the dash also because the car has an alarm.

Also i'd like to note that i had to wire the cd player up to the factory wires due to the previous owners messy installation so i'd rather not remove the cd player if i can help it.

sorry for the third post but theres no edit button.

I realized that the screw is probably for the backstrap... so i dont know if that helps but can the screw itself be removed? I wasnt planning on putting a backstrap in anyways.

Take it out, if the HU falls apart, you shouldn't have taken it out. If not, you should be ok.

ok, well if i cant take it out does anyone have any other suggestions?

It appears to be coming from the inside so thats why i dont think i can take it out

Use a dremel with a cutoff wheel and cut that sucker off...

Hold on. Is the bose radio a factory radio? Did the car from the factory have bose? If the radio is a factory and the car ins't then they won't mix.

Yea, I was about to ask the same question. You generally cannot simply install a factory Bose radio into a non-Bose car without a LOT of additional work like getting all the Bose amps, speakers, etc as well.
