I have a 98 prelude and it is has a manual transmission. I just purchased a Python 881xv , and was thinking of installing it with the remote start as well. I have fairly good knoledge of remote starts but have never installed one in a manual shift vehicle. I was wondering if someone knew how to hook up the remote start so that it would not start if left in gear, i know there is a way to do it. Or if someone knew if the prelude has a neutral safety wire and its wereabouts. Any help would be greatly apreciate it.

If the Python system is not manual safe for remote start, do not install the system. The Prelude will not have a nuetral safety wire if it's a manual , only the automatic's have a nuetral safety on it for the PARK and NUETRAL positions in the transmission. Go and return the Python system for a manual safe system and you'll be thankful you did.

Actually, if you want to use the Python unit (i would), you can get an add-on module from Peripheral electronics that makes any remote start manual safe. It will work the same as a manual safe remote start. You can find it at the bottom of the page http://peripheralelectronics.com/2002/security_bypasses.asp here, and buy it http://www.autosoundgear.com/tek9.asp?pg=products&grp=140 here.

Good luck.

Sorry about the thread thing, this is like my second time posting something and i really dont know how i would have done that. Is there anything else that i can do, i heard that i can use a magnetic switch to make it so that the wires would read negative or positive whenever it is in neutral otherwise it wont let it start. Has anyone heard of this? Or does anyone have any ideas that may or have worked in the past.

THank  you for all your help everyone.

Yeah taht would be a good idea, except for the fact that all of the "manual safe" remote starters are basically a turbo timers, which wll just make sure that the car stays on when you get off the car. This way the car cant be left in gear. And they suck i am better off with the alpine that i have now that doesnt have remote start. By the way, the python 881 has a turbo timer. Im trying to go further and make sure that it wont start at all if it is left in gear, regardless of the situation turbo timer or not....Im sure someone has done this, and i am attempting to do it myself. The only reason i started this thread was to see if anyone has done it, i really dont want to hear "trade in this unit and get one that is manual safe" it defeats the purpose of this thread. Im trying to go above and beyond and it will work, guaranteed.

Thank you all for your help, i mean  it.
