Does anyone know why Alpine went from 4 volt outs to 2 volt outs in the new HUs?

Yeah, that is a pisser. Alpine has been a leader in the market for so long but, now they are just a follower like soo many others. I was very disapointed the other day when I went to best buy and saw alpine head units on the board. Alpine at best buy? UUUUGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

I talked to someone in the car audio part at the local bestbuy, and they said they might even be able to get the Type R subs later on.  Alpine's new 984x line -- posted image. Alpine's new 984x line -- posted image.

I have to agree with racer427 on that one....I have been dealing with them in one respect or another since 1979 and i am sad to see the direction the company has taken the last few (3-5) years or so.... they are definately an industry follower now.....

the 9853 and 55s look pretty sweet though. although its pretty crappy that the 9853 still only has 2volt preouts at that price (crutchfield is 329, 449 for the 55)
the little glide pad thing looks pretty sweet.   anyone get their hands on one yet?

Am installing a 9855 into a 97 landcruiser as we speak.  Have had one in my board since last Friday.  Sounds great  but so far the "glide touch" is confusing as hell to work with. HU sounds great and still has the outboard DC to DC power supply. Cheaper then a 9835 and should sound the same.

Just a fair warning for all.  It seems to us at my shop, the first batch of these 9855's still have glitches to work out.

We had 4 in stock- all were sold.  Our first return was on Monday, a kid brought a unit in, said his friend tried to install it, and was acting funny.  We bench tested it, and got no sound, with the internal amp on.  We reset the unit.  The power light was flickering.  No big deal- right?  Maybe the friend's kid did something wrong and screwed it up.

Well, a couple days pass, and two more, which we installed- came back with problems- buttons not working, etc.  One owner was able to reset it, and the problem went away, but only temporarily before having to bring it back in.  The other was brought back as well.

Today, I installed one in a 3000 GT, and am hoping that mine doesn't do the same.  The units have been working fine for about a day without problems.

My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
