Hey fellas I'm new here and am looking into a much bigger system for my 2003 Explorer.  I have several questions.  Any help would be great.

1. I have the factory head unit in there, which is a 6-disc in dash cd changer.  If I got an Alpine or something after market would I be able to get more bass?

2. On to the subs themselves.  I would like to put 2 15's or possibly even 2 18's in the back, but I don't know anything about all the ohms and all that stuff.  Right now I'm just running 2 12' xplods with an 800-watt sony amp, and it sucks.  I kinda bought that without really knowing anything.  I used to have a car, and it shoved ok in there, but you can barely even hear it in the explorer.  So, I'm looking at audiobahn...first of all, is this a good brand?  I'm pretty sure it is, but I want to get the best stuff that will last me a long time.  The 15' im looking at is the audiobahn AW1508t, and it handles 2000 watts RMS.  it says dual 2 ohm or 1 ohm or 4 ohm operation, and I don't really know what that means.  I tried to figure it out, but couldn't.  So anyway, two of those would shove I'm sure, if I got the right amp.  I'm looking at a Rockford-Fosgate amp here, and it is the 1051s.  Do I need a mono amp to power two subs or a 2-channel amp?

After some replies I will post more.  Thanks a lot guys.

I will be the first to say STAY AWAY from audiobahn. If your looking at 2 quality 15's, your gonna have to put a good amount of cash out. Whats your budget for the subs?

Audiobahn tends to be a lower quality entry level product, run a search either here or on one of the other car audio forums and you will see alot of generally negative feedback on the company. Most people here recommend RE and Adire Audio products from what I have seen, I myself run Diamond Audio and am very pleased with their products.
Also what type of good stuff do you want? Good sound quality (SQ) or the ability to get very loud (SPL)? This will help in what people will suggest to you based on your tastes, also what kind of music you enjoy will help as well.

Oh well that shows you how much I know haha.  I had always thought Audiobahn was one of the higher-end products.  I've never even heard of Adire Audio I don't think.  I'm looking for more SPL as opposed to SQ.  I want it to be very loud and very strong.  Sound quality is important, but I'd rather have a lot of bass.  I listen to rap music.

I looked at the Adire Audio, and the Brahma 15 looks really good.  I think that two of those, along with a big amp, would probably be sufficient.

Just because you have never heard of Adire means nothing. Remember, you thought Audiobahn was good stuff. Adire's stuff rocks arse!!! Very loud and very strong and great sound quality. Only problem is, you can't em right now. Maybe look into some Resonate Engineering XXX's. They are geared a bit more towards SPL. And they too get loud as hell.

Yeh I didn't mean to make it sound like just because I'd never heard of it then it wasn't any good.  I don't pretend to know too much about subs.  I looked at the Brahma 15 and it looked really good to me, and I will take u guys word for it.  I also looked at the XXX's and it looked really good as well.  I think two of those 15's would be great, but then what type and size of amp would I need to power these things?

If you can afford to put a grand to each of the 2 15's then buddy you would be hittin' HARD!!! I mean like vision bluring sick to your stomach hard. I had two 12" Brahmam's with 1000w to each and let me tell ya, thats loud. I let em go with the truck and that was the biggest mistake I ever made. Now I have one w7 12" and it ain't quiet, but it just ain't loud enough.

Yeh that sounds like what I want.  Would i need to get an extra battery put in, or anything else besides the subs and amps?
