I was wandering what the correct way to diagnos a tach wire is with a digital volt meter.

Why do you need to diagnose? You would set your meter to AC Voltage, ground the com lead, then probe wires with the red lead.

Always check info with a digital multimeter.
I promise to be good.

I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.

LOL. Turkey's!
Yeah it was kinda freaky when I did it too.
Set the DVM to AC and <20v range.
Probe the wire while the truck is running.
-you should see about 6.4 on the meter (chevy)
-on mine reving the engine did nothing to the voltage so I imagine it is the frequency that changes or else I hit the wrong wire (white at the cluster).
shut of the engine and 0.00 should show. All done!
Good luck!
p.s. ask here about your specific vehicle and they'll tel you the right wire. Haven't really seen them wrong yet.
