I bought the Viper 791XV and had it installed by Best Buy. They said they could not connect the remote start because my car has a standard transmission, and I completely understand that they do not want to be held liable for it. So my question...how hard is it to finish the job and hook up the remote start? I already have the module up in my dash, without the key in it, and I believe there are only 2 wires left in the product box. One has 4 wires (pink, brown, orange, blue) and the other has 6 wires (BLACK/ green, BLACK/ gray, WHITE/ green, purple, BLACK/ white, and blue).

If it is too much trouble, I don't really want to do it myself, but have someone around the DFW area do it for me.

If someone could please tell me how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it. Oh, by the way...I have a 1998 Ford Mustang GT Convertible with a 5 speed manual transmission. Thanks a lot guys!

you might have just as much trouble finding someone else to do it for the same liability, it's not to hard to do, you would have to hook up a clutch bypass realay and then hook up 2 ignition wires a start wire and an accesory wire, so really there isn't much left,, well there might be the break wire and tac wire left, so i guess it's not REALLY simple, but yea... you could do it,

Put the car on a lift, drop manual transmission, replace with auto. Then take it back to best buy.

Basicaly if you don't know what you are doing then this shouldn't be your first attempt at an alarm install.

you gotta start somewere auex,, haha, i'd call around first of all, tell them you'll sign a paper or whatever they want to disclaim liability, and see who wants to charge you what... also, you may think about just NOT hooking it up, i know it sounds nice,,, but everyone i know who does this, ends up screwing up their car, i installed probably 7 or 8 manual auto's last winter, and all but 1 of them (they were all customers i talk to regularly i don't do it on walk ins) all but 1 has hit something ATLEAST once,... the starter will drag the car for a little bit even with the e brake on, not like 300 feet, but if you park in front of a wall like a foot or two away, and you auto start and accidently leave it in first, you will have a f**ked up bumper when you get back to your car, ,, it only takes once

Hell, the first alarm I ever installed was a RS. I hated my manager for making me do that as the first alarm.

Well, the alarm is already installed, like I said. All I have left to do is bypass the clutch and install the extra wires it seems. Also...for the the start-in-gear, I am going to install some springs in the gears so that it will disconnect the start wire if it's in gear. And for the install, the guy at Best Buy said he'd do it outside of best buy for $40. I can't get him to actually do it, though...it seems as if he keeps blowing me off.

well if you can hook up some limit switches in first and reverse to tell if it's in gear that would be cool, people also put in switches on the hood pin ground system, something by the shifter to activate the starter (there are many different versions of this) something that you woulnd't do unless you rememberd to take it out of gear, like that you'd have to push a button after you shut your car off or something like that or else it wouldn't start next time you tryed (with the remote) that way if you remember to hit the button you would also have remembered to take it out of gear

as far as i know the clifford intellistart won't start if the car is in gear find out how they do it and replicate it..

the only way to do that is with sensors in the gears, now they all have reverse gear sensors SOMEWERE oviously, but i don't know about first, you would probably have to put somethin there

There are lots of cautionary advices and suggestions the professional installer here have given you. If you insist in connecting the remoter starter to your car rather than spending the extra money on a new unit, which will work correctly with a manually transmission car, that's up to you. For peace of mind, sometime monetary value cannot replace that. Trust me on this one. As for technical assistance what I can suggest that you do is have a ground switch connecting to the hand brake. This way if the hand brake is ever not applied, the remote start will not take place. This is probably the best margin of safely that you will have for not getting a manual tranmission remote start unit. Everything else is irrelevant as I feel you might no have the technical skill to apply them otherwise we wouldn’t be discussing them.
