I'm new to this site, but Ive read alot of the posts and I can see alot of you guys know what you're talking about.

What I've got: 2001 silverado- W/passive fuel,starter & ignition kill; mounted laptop w/GPS & inverter . 6x12 trailer w/30 grand in tools. Wi-Fi & wired cameras. generator.

What I do: Install appliances in residential homes and @ construction sites.

What I want: Some type of alarm w/motion sensor or movement sensor to signal me remotely that  someone has touched, entered, moved or removed something from my truck or trailer, or has separated trailer from truck.

Limitations:1) I'm in and out of truck & trailer 30 to 50 times a day getting tools and supplies, so I need passive arm and easy or quick dissarm. While at jobsite,2) false alarms, laptop is whith me in house (30 gigs of tunes played through Bosch jobsite radio, also billing and spec sheets) so I can check  cameras. 3)At home or out getting parts or supplies need way to monitor. Have PDA/Phone &reg cellphone . I think that siren is unnecessary, if I'm wrong, tell me why.

Fun part: I want way to PUNISH offenders, (since I'll be able to watch them)  -remote: shock, 140 decibel pain generators, paintball guns. I don't know, you guys are pretty creative, give me some ideas. But I don't want to kill them, just hurt them. Oh yeah, I don't want accidently punish myself.

I would look into revising and updating your home insurance policy first. The top of the line Alarm system will not cover your lost. However, your updated insurance policy does!

It's not going to happen! Professional car theif are like Comedian. Timing. They execute the punch line perfectly. Before you even know what have to your stuff. They are laughing selling the hot stuff on the street.
On the more serious note, what I can suggest for you is get yourself a two way pager alarm and set up serval siren and have it connect to a seperate back up battery. It will give a couple of second of notice because the theifs walk off with your goodies. Take a look at some Compustar alarm product.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.Truck & Trailer security -- posted image.

Best security for you would be a good insurance plan considering you like to brag about what you have in your truck. Never the smartest thing, over the internet or not.

Thanks pencil,

You are right about about the pro's, if they want it they'll get it

I've got the insurance, and I'll be the happy one if they take the whole lot. My concern is the amateur coke heads who are hitting me little by little. If I turn in a couple of small claims my rates go through the roof. Or I get cancelled. So I've got to eat the losses.

Last week I was in a house, nailing some trim, went to get something out of the trailer and noticed my compressor was unplugged and two tool boxes were gone. $700.00 . One only had pipe and fittings, 200 bucks worth.

As far as bragging about it, when you work at a house and open the trailer, everyone can see everything you've got. So I don't need to brag.

I guess I didn't make myself clear on what type of theft I wanted to stop

I didn't want a siren because too many false alarms on a jobsite and too many people get PO'd; everybody has a hammer too.

I have the cameras so I can just look at the screen. does a siren actually scare off a thief ?

What type of sensor is best and how many would I need ?

What about the punishment ?

I agree with auex and thepencil on your insurance policy.  Since that is covered, I would try what you want to do.  Anything out of the ordinary, like a siren, will deter theifs.  Camera's, sirens, laptops, paintball guns, you are not going to get all the above.  Start with the basics, like a good two way alarm.  You could position a motion sensor on the inside of the trailer.  Basically, when you leave the trailer, arm your alarm while leaving the doors open.  Wire, or program, the motion sensor for "warn away only".   Get a good, loud piezo siren and mount it in your trailer.  If someone tries to go inside when the alarm is armed and the doors are opened, they will get a very loud "warn away" that might scare them away.  Or you could set it to completely set off the alarm if you want.  It is easy to disarm the alarm any time you need a certain tool.  As far as camera's with your laptop, hop on Ebay and pick up a set of wireless 2.4 gig color camera's for $99.00 bucks.  You might have to grab a video card for your laptop, but that is a cheap way to have camera's in your trailer.  There are many ways to do this.  The only problem I can see is getting the wires from the truck to the trailer.  You could just mount a seperate alarm in the trailer???

A quicker and easier way to install something and get in and out of the trailer is one of these http://www.axxisbiometrics.com/index.cfm

A fingerprint keypad.  You just walk up to the doors of your trailer and put your thumb to it and it unlocks.  Quick, simple and efficient.

Good luck
