hey, i got a 95 thunderbird, and i thought about making kickpanels for some 5 1/4s but i have no idea on how to get started. ive delt with fiberglass before but not in this type or application. ive made a few sub boxes so i have the basic idea, just its still kinda confusing to me. i know u need to use aluminum foil or something to that effect for the casting. i understand that part of things, but the part that really gets me is that  on the factory kickpanel it runs about 1/2 way up the door crease. (the little strip inbetween the dash and the out side. and i wasnt sure how to go about that. itll be a while before if get started. im in the army, and still in training, but any ideas would be great, that way i would be able to get started on it and pop it right out when i got started. thanks

The easiest thing for your application to do is to actually use the existing stock panel, because of that strip. I would cut and mount my MDF speaker rings to each panel, angled/imaged, etc. Then spray the edges of the inside of the panel with some spray adhesive and wrap the bottom portion of the kickpanel with mold fabric. You should be able to stretch the mold fabric around to the other side of the panel and adhere to the spray adhesive. Do the same around the front side, however you will need to cut it off before you get to the long strip. After you add your resin to the fleece, you can add bondo and taper the mold fabric into the stock ABS strip.
Its a lot easier to understand this process if you have done it before. Good luck with your project.
