I currently have 2 Infinity 1020W 10" subs (250W RMS @ 4 Ohms). I just got my new car ('05 Mazda Tribute). I was curious what your opinions would be on using only 1 of these subs. I want to have some quality, along with the ability to turn it up occasionally. I will be powering it with the Model: 16-MCD500. It is 250Wx1 at 4 Ohms and 500Wx1 at 2 Ohms. I am trying to decide if it's worth the additional space of a bigger box, or if 1 will be sufficient.

dont mean to be rude or anything but why would u buy a new mazda tribute? there is alot better cars to buy for that price range. anyways reguardless those subs are pretty weak, if you are going for more bass you are going to need more of a nicer sub, but two of those subs should sound not bad. just wire both of them at 2 ohm and it you will get that decent sound you are looking for.

harnrajw, you might be surprised in the small amount of difference in decibel level when you change to one sub. You'll also be providing cleaner power to it with better damping factor. I'd say you should give it a shot, and make sure the new car gets plenty of damping.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

OR... you could always run the woofers in an isobarik configuration, use the power from the amp (at the expense of output) but have a TINY enclosure with the same response as a larger enclosure for one driver... You will also not need to "throw away" any woofers... There's my input...

Thanks for the responses guys. I have another question The documentation that came with the sub says it requires a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.75 cu ft. The shop that I was thinking of building the box for these says 1.5 cu ft each. This has me a bit puzzled. If it is 0.75 cu ft. each, I will be able to fit both and still have a decent amount of cargo space.

i say with the '05 Mazda Tribute youll have enof room for the 1.5cu ft per sub, but if you want to have more room for cargo.

measure the amount of room " area" you want to use, for the sub.!

if for a sealed box, select the tuning freq you want, and change the size of box acordingly, if the box gets bigger then the area you want to use, select diffrent tuning freq,

if for a seal box, select the tuning freq, and build the port to mach.

too easy!

if you need software to help you try googling it for: mobile design and or winISD !!
