Kickpanels

Has anyone installed/built a set of kickpanels with speakers that were not made for a sealed box? How did it sound? Can you tell me any tricks to make this setup work optimally?(venting into the carpet/etc) Will a free air speaker sound better in a door if installed properly or better in a sealed kickpanel where the imaging will /should be better? I tend to crank the volume and dont want a speaker to "fart" and I don't want  to go to the trouble of building kickpanels when I am putting the wrong type of speaker in them.Any pointers and tips will be greatly appreciated!

 Ok me again, well after taking a close look at my car, it seems that the kickpanel idea is out, it is not going to work, not enough space and too many things in the way.

So I am just going to place them in the doors and figure out a way to angle them up and back ,maybe some mdf rings cut at an angle or something.

so can anyone help me with some tips on how to make the best door enclosure to prevent cancelation and rattles. or just some helpful links that you know about so i can quit searching like crazy.

Aim the speakers towards the pillars behind the driver and passenger seats. You want the speakers to be able to crossover in front of the driver and make the phantom front channel from the two speakers.
