HO alternator?

I just hooked up my third amp today. After about 2 hours of playing time my whole system shut down. I checked the fuse at the battery and it looked fine, so i switched it out with another fuse that I got from my friend but i dont know for sure that its ok. Again i turn on my car and nothing turned on. I checked all the wiring and everything is hooked up right. When the system turned off i pulled over and looked at my capacitor and it said .6 when it should be at around 14. I have a jbl 600.1, memphis 500d, and a memphis 2004 for my mids and highs. Do I need a high output alternator? Ive heard those are the solution for your battery not being able to supply enough current for all your amps. If anyone can help please do. thankyou

Check power before and after the fuse.  I think your fuse is blown, and you've drained the cap.  Recharge the cap before you slap another fuse in there, or you might simply blow the next one.

Yes, you should definitely upgrade the alternator, and the vehicle's power/ground wiring.

sounds like the fuse for sure, or some connection between the bat and the cap, if you have a fuse holder that is really cheep a lot of time it will arc between the fuse and it's conections, so make sure those are tight, and check your fuse with an ohmeter if you aren't sure that it's blown or not, it's probably a good idea to think about upgrading your alt and grounding and things,,,, but that's not what's causing your cap to read no voltage.

Ok I found out the problem. I went to an audio shop about 2 weeks ago, and tried to find a 4 guage splicer. The guy said they dont make any but i can try a distribution block that turns one 4 guage into two 4 guage outputs. I didnt buy it cause it was $20. I stripped both sides and crinkled them together. I rapped electrical tape around the connection. For about 2 weeks i didnt have any problems with my system when i was running 2 amps with 2 subs and 4 speakers. Once i added the other amp and the 2 15's the system just shut off after about 2 hours of playing time. So I guess the cap just got drained. If i bought an HO alternator, would i need around 180 amps? I know there is an equation for how many amps i would need for this system but i cant find it. Also would i be able to install it myself if i bought one off ebay? Do i have to buy one specifically for my car? When you guys said i would have to replace my grounds and wiring did u mean that I would need to upgrade to 0 guage? thankyou

They do make splices for 4 gauge- we carried them when I worked at Ultimate, but they're not very common.  If you strip back enough, you can solder them together, but you shouldn't just twist them and tape them up.

You don't have to upgrade your grounds to 0 gauge, 4 gauge would work, 2 gauge would be better. 

That'd probably be okay, but you should contact the seller with any questions.

My suggestion (2 actually):

1) save up your money and buy the correct parts for your system (d-blocks, ho alt, etc.) and install it correctly.

2) take it to a shop and let them take care of it for you, as you don't sound like you have much experience to get the job done right.

it takes 88amps per 1000watts. your alternator won't put out enuf power to power your Car, probably around 50 amp draw, and your sound system. I would go with a 200-225amp alternator. You will just other keep destroying your electrical system, and your batteries. your batteries can only take so much draining and charging. if you keep it up, you wont have enough power to run/start your car.
