I can't speak for the xtr 2150, but I own 3 Orion 2250sx amps and 1 Orion 2510sx amps. I believe they were all made before the xtr model came out. My amps have all ran good since I bought them (around 10 years ago I think). Right now they're stored until I need to use them again though.
If your amp is getting hot and shutting off, I'm guessing you probably are running the ohms too low. I believe it's a 4 ohm load bridged (mono) recommended on those amps (at least it was for the SX series). However I ran my 2250sx's at a 3 ohm load and they held up well. I just had to changed the internal fuses to a little higher rating (I know they have low amp fuses for a reason though). LOL
Good luck and let us know if you get this figured out.

I guess we can't edit our posts here.
On the first line of the last post, I meant I have 3 Orion 2250sx amps and 1 Orion 2150sx amps.

All of the older Orion amps were good amps.

XTR2150 is what the 2150SX became when it got the removable top and crossover modules built in.

The XTR had removable top plate (great idea if it didn't rattle) where the SX had no removable plate. SX did have the clip indicator lights which dissapeared on the XTR. Both very good amps, just make sure to feed them well when it comes to power.
