My stereo was stolen and I believe they chopped more than just the stereo wires because my speedometer, power locks and interior lights don't work anymore.  It smells like burnt rubber in the car too...

Tonight we are going to replace fuses but is it possible that wires to the dashboard were cut?  A whole bundle of 10 wires were chopped in total.  Is there anything differenct about installation when the wires are chopped? ... Anyone know any sites on general instructions I can use to go with the wiring info I got on this site?  I have a 93 Jeep Cherokee...

Cheers,

Thanks for the replies.  We changed the fuses and it fixed the interior light but the gauges and power locks are another story...

First of all, the fuses were missing (wonder if the thieves did it?) and when I put in the replacement for the gauges in, they flipped on and the power locks clicked back and forth a couple times then kept blowing out... wuh-ierd...

So my boyfriend goes and puts in a 30 fuse "to see where the problem is" and lucky me, the roof starts smoking then he takes it back out (same smell as when my car was busted into)... crazy/stupid approach eh?

...but he is proud to have "narrowed down the place to search"... any ideas of what is up in the roof? I'm thinking maybe the remote access is the prob... I think I am going to bring it to a shop for them to finish er off...

Any comments on my debaucle? Thanks for your offer PD...

Make sure that because the stereo panel is off, that you have not disconnected any harnesses, eg. for emergency lights or clock . As you could have lost continuity in some of your circuits. In my car, when I remove the stereo panel, I have to disconnect the clock, emergency light and defrost harnesses, and as such until my panel is reconnected with the emergeny light harness, my turn-signal don't work, as disconnecting the emergency light harness breaks continuity in the turn-lights circuit.
