Does anyone out there know where I could find information on the location of car radio mutes in different vehicles.

Would anyone have a database of this they are willing to share?

this info would be key for custom installs.

I know that most lexus cars, and toyota, use a gray wire. there are 2 at the back of the radio, one is ignition the other is mute.

new gm radios with data buss you can use the data plug to send not only mute but audio as well. I use SOUNGATE inc. cable assembly part# GMCELL a must for escaldes and denalis!!

I find a Test Lamp the most effective way of finding the audio Mute, turn the radio on & PROBE AWAY!

If it dont work - Use a relay!

well, not all radios like it when you cut the ignition feed with a relay. Try that on a benz, see how many wrenches show up in the cluster in the dash. A bulb test light could find mute leads. they usally  rest at around 2 or 3 volts and ground will activate them. I don't think that it is the best way. Some guys find tach wires the same way. put a test ligh on the coil and see when the car stalls . again not the best way.

a relay is safe to interupt power but what about a navigation radio. you don't want to cut power in the middle of navigating.
