If you want to glue carpet onto an enclusre you need to ensure that the surface has some roughness to it in order for the glue to grab and the carpet to stick. Use 3M Super 90 or 3M Super 70 adhesive spray glue for the best adhesion for this type of enclosure.

Maybe if you get some carpet edging and put that on up to the paint, it will give you a nice edge and not have a "smashed together" look. It will trim the box out nice and make it look more natural.

(actually, just do a Google search for "subwoofer carpet")
I got so tired of looking, and then when I did find something it looked so "aftermarket" that I went to the yard and pulled carpet out of a wreck - cut it to shape and re-spray dyed it - looks just like the factory put it there.
