Does the shape of sub enclosure matter?

Before I go any further with the enclosure I am in the process of installing, I need to make sure if the shape of the enclosure matters, vs. just the internal volume? It is going into a storage compartment with the spare tire. I intend on keeping the spare (unless someone knows how to mount a sub on a 17" rim in the event of a flat), and in order to get the volume correct I had to go wider at the top. I need 1.0 cu ft., mine is at .979. Thanks in advance.Subtlety is EVERYTHING.

If its sealed, not at all, acctully I can't think of ANY time it would matter. The more curves the less chance of standing waves though.Nik

I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.

I'll try to describe the general shape.....the distance from the bottom of the sub to the top of the tire rim (the sub actually fits above the center of the tire/rim) is about 1.5 inches. I actually have 2 "boxes" in progress. One is shaped like an upside down Aztec pyramid. The other, has a circular bottom, then an intermittant ring before the top with framed supports connecting the two as well as another layer of supports to the top. Almost like the frame of a zepplin shaped like a cone (make sense?). That one I was considering fiberglassing so the enclosure would literally be a cone shaped box (wasn't that a Nirvana song.....wait, that was heart shaped box...nevermind - hey - wasn't that a Nirvana album?! ) Does either of these sound better than the other - or for that matter - functioning? From the "standing waves" issue, sounds like the cone shape would be best. (?!) Do they still need to be filled with fiberfill?Subtlety is EVERYTHING.
