Sub woofer phase problem

I have a problem with a sub woofer system in my ford sedan, i'm running 2 cliff design 10 inch dual 4 ohm coil subs in a NONE partitioned box with 2 ports on either side of the box, the subs fire into the boot, my problem is the system rocks while the boot is open and your in the car but when you close the boot i lose about 50% of the bass, now i know this is a phase problem but i really don't want to have to move the subs cause that would mean tottaly re working the boot the cliff design amp i'm using has a variable phase control which i tried but there was no difference so i wired the subs so they were pulling instead of pushing still no difference the only thing i havent tried is wiring the subs out of phase so that one pushes while the other pulls any help on this matter would be massivley appreciated I Love This Industry!!

What you are describing is most likely not an electrical phase issue.  Electrical phase can be corrected using the switch on the amp or by changing the wiring on the woofers.  What I believe you have is an acoustic phase problem.  With the ports on oposite walls of the enclosure and not on the same baffle as the speakers, the enclosure position in your trunk (boot) becomes critical.  The only way to correct this kind of problem is to move the enclosure around until you discover the optimal position in this vehicle, or build a new enclosure.  Cheers.Support the12volt.com
