I have a 2001 Toyota camry CE 4cyl. I was wondering what the output is for the factory alternator. Reason being one day I went to start my car and go to work….nothing when I turned the key, nothing but a clicking sound. Had my dad take a look at it and said the battery terminals were too corroded, so he had me take some baking soda and a brush and go to work, problem solved. About a month later I start my car, run down to the store at the end of the street, come back, stayed at my place for less than an hour, went to remote start it and nothing. Tried unarming the car and nothing, I have the viper 791XVR and the remote was saying no signal. I unlocked it manually and the alarm went off but was very quiet. Jumped the car and started, put my parking lights on and dead again. Had to jump it then we were good again.

Things I have running off my car with a factory battery and alternator:

Viper 791XVR

JBL 1200.1 amp with two 12in L7

Indash DVD player

Radar detector

Roadmate 700

4 Button switch controlling 2 black lights and 2 small quarter size lights and a relay controlling the e-brake wire on the indash unit

Do you think it sounds like a new batter and alternator is needed?

The best advice I can give you is to take it somewhere and get the alternator checked. They can test it and the battery and tell you what is wrong. You can call Toyota and find out the amps on the factory alternator.

I just became MECP Certified and still learning alot. I just replaced the battery and it fixed the problem. I used a load tester and i wast getting 14 volts when running, it was the battery but the alternater needs to heavier or i'm just goint o run into the same problem. I'm trying to find places online that sell high output alternators but cant find any. I talked to a few people who own some shops around here but all they can reccomend is getting mine rebuilt to put out more amps. Do any of you know of a place i can order a high ouput one online?

There are lots of them. www.mechman.com is one. You can e-mail Dominick Irraggi at dominick@tds.net also. This is 2 of the best around. Stay away from alterstart whatever you do. I got mine from there and have had lots of problems with it.
