I am almost ready to put the new system in my car, but I am uncertain whether or not to mount new tweeter in factory location or surface mount it on the plastic piece at front corner of window.  I am working with a set of Alumapro Alc 6.2 components.  I am going to bi-wire using headunit as crossover.  The factory tweeter location is directly in front of doorpull about 14" away from 6.5".  I am placing a 25mm? tweeter there which is a tight fit, but it will work.  I am just uncertain where to place.  Is there anything to go on besides listen and see what is best?

Your idea of experimenting with tweeter location is really the best thing to do.

Ideally you will want to have the tweeter as close to the mid as possible. The rule of thumb is 6" away from the mid. You might find the tweeter too bright, especially if it is a metal dome, if it is too high up in the car.

Ive made up some small brackets and mounted my tweeters in behind the centre air-con vents in the dash. Sounds bloody good, although I had to turn the high freq levels down a bit to balance it out. So far the hot air/cold air coming out the vent hasnt done any damage ;)
