Hey guys, I've got a 2003 Explorer with the factory DVD entertainment system in it.  I also have the factory 6-disc in dash cd changer.  I want to upgrade the head unit to an Alpine, but it says on Crutchfield that if I take out the factory head unit I will lose the DVD system.  So the question is, is there any way to get around this at all?  I want to put an aftermarket head unit in there, but I'm not going to if that makes that DVD system useless.  If there's no way to get around that I'm going to be really pissed off because I didn't know that when I bought the truck.  Anybody know anything about this?

yeh i just talked to a guy at our local audio place and he said that the video would still work but you wouldn't be able to get any sound because the sound goes through the head unit.  I think that's bullcrap, because if you want to upgrade the head unit then you are stuck with an inoperable DVD system, but whatever.

is there a way to get the sound by tapping in to the player? i'm in the same situation. i have an 03 navigator and just put in an eclipse avn5435. the rear dvd player still plays but you cant hear it. i have headphone jack in the center console that i was hoping would still work but it doesn't. is there a way to find the audio signal from the dvd player and connect them to the headphone jack?
