My sister has a 99 civic ex w/ factory security. She tried to get in and the remote did not work, so she used the key. That set off the alarm and she couldn't shut it off nor could she start the car. I disconnected the horn to shut it up and put a new bat in the transmitter and tried to reprogramm the trans. as per the car owners manual. But nothing would do the trick. I know on chryler products you put the key in the pass. door and unlock it, it will shut down the alarm. What is the trick on this stupid honda. It is sat. night and talking to anyone with knowledge locally is impossible. thanks alot for any help you can give me.

I would disconnect the battery....let it set fer a while, reconnect it, then try the remote.

Typically, factory alarms DO NOT have starter disable....it's usually simple door security.

If all else fails take out the panel under the steering wheel and unplug the green plug that connects to the alarm. I think this will work because I have a 2000 Honda Civic Ex and I got rid of the factory alarm because it was not working poperly. This will mean that she will no longer have an alarm for her car though, but the factory alarm for these cars is not very good anyway. I am not positive that this wil fix your problem though, but it sounds like what happened to my car. If you know what you are doing you can install a new alarm that is 50% better fro less than $250. Good luck.
