I have a 96 windstar premium sound system with cd. I have replaced the radio and rear controller and nothing.  I went looking for the amp last night, drivers side rear over wheel well, nothing there...

any other ideas?

thanks

If you had the problem before changing out the HU, then it probably is your factory amp. Most of them are on the passenger side in the rear. If this is your scenario, then there is an amplifier bypass harness that you can acquire from your local stereo shop. It may have come with the harness you purchased for your aftermarket HU install. Or,if you wish, you may go to your local Ford dealership, or junk yard, and purchase another amplifier. With an aftermarket HU, I wouldn't see it necessary, the amplifier in the HU should produce enough power.

If this isn't the scenario, and you just simply wanted to change your HU, then there should be a blue/white striped wire on the HU harness and the aftermarket harness, this is the remote turn on lead, connect these two, this will enable the signal for your factory amplifier to turn on. Many people overlook this when installing aftermarket HU's into a vehicle that has a factory amplifier. Good Luck!
