I haven't done one of those older chevy trucks (95 era) where you need to dissasemble the whole rear plastics to get to in a long long time and i have one comming tomorrow. Anyone have any pointers? It has the bench seat in the rear also.

Last time i remember doing it it was a real Pain and took forever, but that was years ago.

It is going to break, there is no warranty and there is an additional 125 for installation(at least those are the conditions for install in my area). This is assuming it is an extended cab and not a 4 door. These things are a MAJOR pain in the ass. The top panel is goint to break all the clips that hold it in, I have not EVER found anyway around it. Shops in my area either don't do them or straight up tell the customer it will break and that there is nothing that the shop will do about it.

If I remember correctly to do it "the correct way" remove bench seat, remove seatbelts for front seat, carefully remove side panels, unscrew 2 screws from top, break every clip getting piece of shhh out, replace speakers, put back together, tell customer they are SOL. Maybe not all in that order but it has been a couple years for me as well.

Auex is right on why don't you just tell the customer to disconnect them and get good front speakers or components up front it will save you in the long run

Actually he is so close it is not even funny.... since this vehicle came out I have broken all but 3..... explain to the customer before hand that the plastic is old and fatigued. Shoe him at either end of the top panel where it is expected to break (towards the front of it at each end). Explain to him about the clips in behind the top, bottom and side panels and the sheer number of clips as well.

If the side panels are removed, there is no need to remove the top panel now is there?.... sometimes the top panel can be left inplace if the rear seat is out. Remove the back panel below the window, pull the bottom out and lift up, do not pull the top out, it goes up. Take off the armrests, undo the 4 screws in each armrest. Remove the rear seat. Remove the side panels, top and bottom. Now if you do this right, the side panels should be able to rotate enough to pull clear of the top panel without any worries.

Otherwise, snap the darn top and go from there. PITA, I hate you GM!

ahh crap, , now im starting to remember why i can't remember how i did it before, , , i think i gave up haha. I'll tell the customer he has 2 options, , i tear it apart and he replaces the parts, , or i cut a hole where the speaker is and then just put a fancy grill over it. He wants me to wedge a 5x7 in there and some how put 6.5" components up front without fabricateing anything too special.... im going to loose some hair tonight.

6x9's in a wedge box under the rear seat is a perfect alternative for your/his situation. The sixes aren't a problem in the doors. Just watch out for the wiring for the window switches. Don't loose hair about it, there is nothing you can do about the crappy engineer or the person that bought the crappy plastic for GM.

Whelp, 11 hours l finally finished and the end product is very nice, , i didnt break a thing actually, , just had patience.
