This is probably a dumb question, but i have to ask. A friend of mine has one pioneer 10" sub hooked up to two crunch amps. The crunch amps each have a VU meter on the outside. When it is played at a low volume only one VU meter moves, and when it is played louder the other begins to move as well. The sub has a single voice coil. What I want to know is how to hook up two amps to one svc speaker. Is it a common practice and I just haven't seen it much or is it somthing that shouldn't be done at all?

I have seen this done , but not with analog amplifiers ( just digital amps ). Analog amps are just not precise enough to work together at the same time ( as your friend has noticed ) and this could damage all components hooked up in the system.

He is probably better off buying another sub and hooking up one amp to each sub.  Because the way he is running it now probably going to blow something soon.
