Hey all,

I have a Alpine CDE-7821 head unit.

Sometimes, the cd (either cd-r or original store release) will get stuck in the player. When I press the eject button, it sounds like it wants to eject, it just doesn't. I've tried pressing the button different ways - longer, shorter, lighter, etc. but to no avail.

Suggestions? How do I clean it? Does it have to go into repair?

This happens with some heads, and usually more commonly with CD-R's. In many cases the CD is being tilted by the eject mechanism and the front edge catches on the inside of the CD slot. Try inserting a thn card like a playing card against the top of the CD slot, then press eject and see if the CD will come out under the card. If the HU is under warranty, take it in for repair or replacement.

Could you expand on why it does that, I've noticed both of my Headunits do it only to CD-R's but only somethimes, but Ive put them both on a scale and they nearly identical in weight.. , so it cant be a weight issue could it?

It's thickness. CD-r's are a bit thicker than standard production CDs. Sometimes it is heat-related too, as head units can get pretty hot while playing a disk and this causes things inside to expand at different rates, and can cause the mechanism to bind.
