I read a few posts about how to properly set the gains on an amp using a meter. Question.... What kind of meter to I need to get to do this, and where can I get one? Also,
is this worth buying and doing or am I wasting my time and money.
Thanks in advance,
Heath

You would want to purchase a mulit-meter from any local hardware store. I feel that one is extremely important to own especially since I work on the car electronically and mechanically. They not very expensive (mine was like $50 for a decent digital one). To obtain the AC volts that your amp should play at, follow this formula: E=SQR(P*R) where E=volts, SQR=Square root, P=Power in Watts, and R=Resistance in Ohms. When you test a channel, disconnect all speakers from the amp, and then test. Just make sure that your HU settings are at the highest you will adjust them to (volume, eq, etc.)

You can't go through life without a multimeter.  Pick one up at Sears hardware for about $40.  Most of what you'll find are digital; they are very accurate and easy to use.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

O scope is the only way to go on setting gains.... meters are not acurate and the manufactures specs are always wrong !
Thats my 2 cents.... take it for what its worth!
