I installed a prestige asp785.  Sometimes it might take 2 to 3 times of starting to start the truck with the remote start.  When I use the key it starts right away every time.  I am working on 2000 xterra.  Thanks for the help.

Did you turn on the diagnostics feature of the remote starter?  If so, what reason does it say for the failed start attempt?

Did you get both starter wires?  I've never done an xterra specifically, but pretty much all Nissans since the mid '90s have two starter wires----if you miss one, the car will start sometimes, but not always, as you describe.

Are you using the tachometer wire connection?

Does the car have an immobilizer key?  It'll have a little rectangular plug kinda thingy somewhere on the key head if it does.  If you think you're having trouble with this, simply leave a working key in the ignition and see if it starts then.

Chris I forgot to answer your other questions.  Yes I am using the tach.  The alarm is reading the tach signal fine.  No I do not have a key immbolilizer.  The alarm does the same with the key in or out.  Please expain more about the two starter wires and how to hook them up.

The wire you are looking for is GREEN/ YELLOW for the second starter. Depending on your alarm you will probably have to use a relay.

Is it posible that all I need to do is just hook both of the starter wires up to the remote start starter wire without a relay?
