Current I am installing a DEI 550 remote start sytem on a 2000 Civic 5 speed. I have it all installed and working but I wanted to put a safety on it so that if the owner tries to start the car in gear it would fail. I have heard of using pin switches on the gear shifter to do this but wanted to know if there is a better way.

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Jerry, use the neutral safety wire. Look for either a BLACK/ Blue or Light Green wire at or near the fuse panel. To verify you have the correct lead, measure resistance to ground while in gear and in neutral.

Hey Jerry,

There is always risk involved when installing a remote starter made for automatics on a manual.  Serious injuries and/or death.  Accidents do happen so I hope you have deeep pockets if you get sued.  Myself I recommend you have the customer shell out a few bucks and buy a combo made for manuals,  in such cases I'd prefer to give him one at cost price if need be.  You'll sleep better! I used a small magnetic sensor from radio shack nd used some good epoxy and zipties to attach the magnet to my shifter cable and i just screwed the other to the car right under the magnet while in neutral. Works great. If you barely move the shifter the car also dies.
