Installing Viper 791xv

HI all, Im new here, well not actually, I mostly brows the site to get ideas and stuff...... Well I had a question about the VIPER 791XV alarm... I am planning the buy the alarm and install it myself, I always wanted to learn how so..... I am planning on buying the Bitwriter Programmer and other add-ons like window roll-up/down, remote start, trunk release etc... Well I wanted to know is what does the alarm come with in the package so I will know what else I would need to install it...? Thanks in advance to all who reply......

Comes with the brain, wiring harness's, 1 remote, siren, shock sensor, Antenna, LED, Valet switch, toggle override switch, hood pin switch, Install Manual and the Owner's Manual I don't really see a need to purchase a bitwriter unless your going to be installing these for a living. You can do just about everything you want in the programming mode of the alarm itself. You will need to purchase Window modules seperately. You will need a relay for the trunk release, and if it's not power release an actuater for that. You might need relays for the door locks depending on what kind of vehicle your installing into. Also you might need a security bypass for the key depending on what kind of vehicle you have. Good luck and if you need help post back with your questions and we'll do the best we can to assist you. The alarm is going to be going in a 87 Mustang GT.... As of right now I have an old alarm system the Sidwinder in it, but i wanted to upgrade, since ill be putting alot of stuff in it soon...... On the bitwriter, I dont really need it then..... I always thought that you would need it to program the trunk release, remote start etc.. Also can you tell me what the use of the bitwriter is for?? -Thanks-

It just makes it so you can program everything on the screen instead of going through menus and button pushing using only the valet/programming switch and the remote. It also allows you to lock out programming features via the programming switch so that only a dealer or someone with a bitwriter can change settings. A few things it can do that standard programming can't is set remote start runtime anywhere from 1-60 minutes. The normal user options are like 12,24, or 60 minutes. Siren duration can be set from 1-180 seconds with the bitwriter and only 30 or 60 with the normal user settings. So I wouldn't waste the money on it if I were you. The trunk output and optional outputs can all be set using the user programming steps.Steve G

kool..... thanks iskidoo for all the Information...... I had a question about the trunk release ane relay..... WEll my sidwinder is equiped with a trunk release already, would I be able to still use it with the Viper 791xv?? Meaning if I just remove the old alarm/harness and just re-use the trunk relay that it can with?? -thanks-

Yeah if the relay is already wired and functioning correctly just swap the trunk activation outputs from the alarms and it should still work fine.Steve G

You can have 2 sirens if you want. You can use the existing wires if you choose to. I would want to make sure that the original wires were secure and solid and not like T-taps or anything. I would cut the original wire if you know that is one that you will need and use a butt connector and crimp it well. For the high current connections of the remote start I would use the new wires and solder them.Steve G
