Rockford Power BD1500.1 Amp Problem

My friend's Rockford Power BD1500.1 amp is blowing fuses when I try to connect it. I installed it in my truck, immediately after using my Kicker 300.2 amp on the same wires (I have 4 guage). I used a 60 amp fuse. When I gave the remote wire power, The amp attempted to turn on then proceeded to blow the fuse... Any suggestions??? Also, if I can open this amp (it's no longer under warantee anyway) that may prove helpful...any idea where to get a hex bit with a hole in the middle to fit this?? Thanks!

Not a whole lot to tell you if your not a technician.It might have a diode to protect it against the power cables being hooked up in reverse.Other wise it will be a spendy operation to repair since Rockford glues down their power FET's to a metal strip instead of clamping them down individually.Their great MESHA termal manangement system.BigDog

Well I know that amp draws more than 60amps of current. I think it requires at least a 150 amp fuse. ~The Rookie~

Amp sounds like it has crispy crittered, if it is toast, it is more than likely from a bad ground. Read the grounding sticky at the top of the forum. This amp does indeed need a monster 150 amp fuse. If it blowing a fuse upon power up, then the amp is toast, if it is blowing as the volume is increased, get the proper fuse in there.Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

I get no audio output whatsoever...as soon as i install the fuse and hit the remote signal the fuse blows...gain is set as low as possible.   What caused the amp to fry (I know that's an ambiguous question and I probably need to ask the person that was actually using the amp...but...)?? Is there a simple component or two that could be replaced or resoldered, or is the amp better as a paper weight?

Which was more than likely caused by...... a bad ground beacuse of too high a return resistance. Yes get the amp fixed and verify the ground return resistance as well.Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

The amp was never used in my setup...my friend (who's attempting to sell the amp along with 3-12" Rockford HX2's to me) supposedly connected the amp at one point...I have a feeling he was the one who fried it...I need to get some real answers out of him... So is there anyway I can read, learn about amplifiers, and fix this thing myself? Will there be too many components to replace to make it worthwhile? Any ideas on cost of a technician if I couldn't handle it? Thanks
