does anyone here ever use anything inside their sub enclosure for dampening?

if so, how much, what did you use, and how did it change the sound/output levels?

Bracing, bracing, and more bracing.

I've also used cascade audio spray.  If you are well braced and sealed nothing you do will substantially change the sound and/or output levels.  It may clean things up a bit.

I'd concentrate first on box construction.

After your box construction is setup right, definitely add some polyfill or batting to dampen/deepen the sound.  If your box is too small, you can actually make it "sound" bigger by overstuffing it with polyfill.  Otherwise I just line it with 3-4" on all sides.

I just filled mine, 2 JL 10w1v2(yes I know) in a downfiring box designed to fit under the seat of an extra cab chevy, they sound awesome, my friend couldn't believe it and neither could I. The bass is responsive and powerful figuring the subs/enclosure. Definately fill if space is limited.
