Im upgrading my system a good deal, and the head unit i have is the alpina CDA-7894, which has a 60x4 rating. Not being a master of this yet, im just curious if getting another amp to power just my front and rear speakers is necassary, or if i'd even notice a big difference. Both front and rear speakers are kicker k65's. Thanks

60x4 is more than enough power to push front and rear speakers. You wouldn't even need all that power, especially if you have a crossover or if the unit has a built-in crossover. I have the Pioneer AVM-P9000 and it is 45x4 and it screams on my front and rear speakers and they are Pioneer Premier Series.

The RMS power that you probably get off you head is around 20 watts  My advice to you would be if your happy with the way it sounds then don’t get an amp. But if your reason for upgrading is to get louder music then go ahead and get an amp.

We carry that radio where i work and it puts out 27 watts by 4 RMS, which is pretty good for a head unit.  This amount of power will do well on most speakers, but it depends on the power handling of your kickers.

If you want them louder then yes go ahead and get the amp. If you are satisfied with the way it sounds then no.
