might have an 02 bmwX5 coming in for an FM modulated satellite radio install. did a search on the topic and ive read one reply that the radio is easy to get out. I havent even seen the car yet, and i have no experience working on X5's, so if anyone has any insight on removing the radio i would appreciate it. Or better yet, does the radio even have to come out to access the antenna connection? i just did an 02 acura cl where the side panel simply came off and i was able to grab the antenna without removing the radio.

I "believe" the antenna plugs into the factory amplifier/brain. It is in one of the rear quarter panels. You will need antenna adapters.

MXXMIKEXX, i just emailed you all the necessary information to you via a PM to your account.

let me know if you need to know more. i would say you don't need to FM Modulate a SAT receiver to the OEM headunit, but the 02 was not sat radio ready. that started with 03, otherwise you could hardwire XM radio directly into the factory radio while retaining the use of the steering wheel controls, even though BMW is a Sirius only partner.

the radio IS a piece of cake to get out, 2-3minutes tops, remove the volume knob, turn a Torx screwdriver in the hole, and pull, but the instructions link i sent explain it the best.
