Ok so from what i can tell other then the amp whats the difference between these two decks? Bass pro? I asked an Alpine rep and he said the 7897 dosent have Bass pro. I am also playing with the idea of an cda-9835.
Any comments or suggestions?

Your Alpine rep is an idiot. Two main differances between these decks. The 7998 does not have any built in power. The 7897 has 50 watts max X4. ( the first two digits in older Alpine models designate power 78 vs. no power 79 ). The 7998 has the bio display the 7897 does not. BOTH have "bass engine pro".
