I am looking for a 1500-3000 RMS power inverter and I have a couple of questions. First off, does it make a difference on what brand I buy? Is one brand going to be A LOT better than another?

Second of all, how would I wire the inverter to turn on and off through ignition? I understand the theory(relay and accessory wire), but I'm not really sure if they have 12V relays that have 4AWG terminals.

any suggestions?

most good high power inverters will have a remote on/off switch, just chop this lead and use a low power relay, if you want to keep the switch, put it in series with the relay.

Go to yahoo, type "inverters", and hit enter. There are HUNDREDS of brand names available, in capacities from 100 watts to tens of thousands of watts.

One VERY HIGHLY respected brand name is Xantrex, and that link is to their 3000 watt modified sine-wave model.

I do not know what you are trying to run with this item, but MSW models are less expensive, but run the risk of noise in electronic components. This noise cannot happen with a true sine wave model, but they are significantly more expensive - up to twice as much... Keep that in mind.

Wow, 1500~3000w RMS is a LOT of power.

You do realize that that's 104~208 amps that you'll be *trying* to draw from your electrical system. Are you going to upgrade you alternator?

What are you planning on powering with the inverter?
