I installed a Bulldog RS92E Remote Starter on my 97 Ford Expedition. My installation was correct and it worked fine for about a year then I noticed when it was parked in direct sunlight on hot days for long periods of time it would not work properly. I would have to start it with the key then press the remote to get it to work properly. When parked out of the sun like in the garage for long periods on hot days, and even at night, it would work fine. I truly believe the heat made it malfunction. (Louisiana summers are brutal) The techs at Bulldog told me it might be the loop connected to the ignition switch. On this vehicle there is only about a 1/4 inch space around the ignition switch to install the loop, so there isn't much adjustment that can be made. I checked it anyway, but it didn't help. A few months later I started it with the remote, in the garage, but when I stepped on the brake the starter would engage. I was going on a trip so I had to quickly unplug the relays to disable the system. I haven't used it since. I recently had to replace the transponder. I don't know if the remote starter had anything to do with this, but I have since removed the system completely. I really don't trust the techs at Bulldog. They are the geniuses that had me spending several weekends trying to install the remote starter only to find out they had sent me the wrong remote and a defective loop for the ignition switch. My question is has anyone else had any similar problems with this brand remote starter? Is Bulldog a good brand? I thought it was but I could be wrong. Should I continue to go with Bulldog or another brand? Like I said it worked fine for a year. Did I just get a bad system?

i would just try another brand like omega or dei more reliable.

Yeah I used to install some Bulldog stuff because it was easy to get at most major box stores. But they are certainly not professional grade. They have some bugs and it seems that they release some models before they have been fully quality tested. I think when mine started grinding against the starter everytime I presses the brake I got a little irritated. It was because the main brain fuse had blown. I remember thinking what lousy quality that if you blow a fuse, instead of it being invisible to the vehicle and not work, it would create major problems like that. Anyway, I recommend buying a better line of products.

i have a bulldog deluxe 500 and a bulldog rs1200e installed on two different vehicles. both working perfectly. i live in a cold climate, maybe that helps. they both have delivered remote range as advertised. i bought them from walmart for good prices ($150 canadian for the deluxe 500 and $80 canadian for the rs1200e). compustar brands would cost $350 or more.

i refused to allow Bulldog products into our shop....... i simply, politely tell customers if Wal Mart sold it to you, let Wal Mart install it..... the product is garbage..... the fact that a few people have had the product installed without issues doesnt make the product better than it is.......

and for those of you who are dying to chirp "it's the installer/install that makes the product good or bad" I say (after laughing) go ahead and spend a day installing Bulldog product..... if you put a dollar value on your time you'll know exactly what i'm talking about.....

MY POINT EXACTLY.... thats why we dont want a product of that QUALITY associated with our business, even if we weren't the one to sell it to them.....

i installed all the bulldog remote starters by myself. i do this just for fun. the deluxe 500 is installed on my own car with a manual transmisison and the rs1200e is installed on my wife's car (automatic transmission). since then, i have installed a few more bulldog remote starters on friends' cars, none of them have problems. my only other experience is prostart.

i am just speaking of the fact. i am not advertising for bulldog. actually i am unhappy with bulldog's technical support. maybe i am lucky that all the bulldogs i bought from walmart happen to be good. but i think to get a trouble-free application, all the stuff in the process matters, including product quality, and perhaps more importantly, quality of installation and wiring.

Thanks to everyone who responded! I took great care when I installed their product, but unfortunately it didn't work as well as I believe it should have. Of course there will be success stories with this product or Bulldog wouldn't be in business. I just wondered if anyone had any similar problems like mine. I've never heard of them, but I will look into omega, dei, and compustar. I live in a small city and the choices are limited. Thanks again for everyone's advice.

I like Ultrastart 1250's and the Crimestopper RS-900 VII's have worked out pretty well. They are very affordable and have plenty of options to cover whatever a vehicle can throw at you. I pick up a pair of the RS-900's on Ebay for about $100.
