On the Aladdin 2000 install;  there are 2 12v+ power lines for the brain;  one is red and the other RED / white

can these be tied together  and connected to the same source since both need a 12v constant?

i assume one is for alarm and one is for remote start

what is bad about this if anything?

I would recommend finding two different power sources.

If you only have one 12v+ constant wire in your main ignition wire harness, and those are the only two wires you hook up to it,  you should have no problem.  Otherewise it is good to utilize 2 different sources for 12v+ constant when available, unless you go straight to the battery with a heavy gauge wire for 12v+ and ground.

Clifford alarms have that same setup for power.  You would be instructed by the school and many industry leaders that you should take both wires straight to the battery and fused.  The alarm accessories are ok to take power from the solid red wire.

doing so does many things:

  • you won't be tapping into a power sorce that is designed for something else.
  • you wont have a rats nest under the dash.
  • your chances are higher that your alarm will be more fool proof and easier for you to service.
  • If you do have problems with the alarm, youcan easily rule out power and ground problems(provided you ran the ground to the battery too.)
