Can someone please explain to me how to check the output voltage of my head unit.  I have a DMM but I'm not sure where to use it.  Also, do I need to be playing loud music or a test CD when I measure it?  Thanks for the help.

Use a test CD that plays test tones. Most people use a 1K test tone. Turn off all filters and EQ on the head unit. Set your DMM to AC voltage, take the positive probe and touch the center pin of the RCA output, take the negative probe and touch the outside shield of the RCA output. Start turning up your radio to see max output voltage. Remember, this maybe be a clipped signal, which means you can't actually feed that much voltage into an amplifier with it not being a clean signal.
