I was reading today about some guys who installed an alarm on their truck to prevent it from being towed or drove away... What they did was took 4 hydrolic lifts and installed them under the truck and when the alarm was activated it just raised the vehicle off the wheels....
I have several questions... Is this just some B/S story or has anyone else heard of it? Would that be illigal??? And Would that really work???
Just thought I'd grab a few opinions on this..
Thanks,
-Jason

an alarm is not going to prevent a tow tuck to tow it.

Flat bed would simply back up, but the chains on, winch it, when the hydrolic rams started to drag they would simply snap(strong in/up and out/down but not side to side, or welds would break), car would end up on the truck. Nothing stops the tow truck.

you could do this and yes it would stump a driver , But i have drove tow truck for about 3 years. and can personally tell you if htey want it and they have a clue  they can get it.

If i came up on this i would dolly the car out of the parking area or what w cal dry drag. (hook on and take off)

If it was somthing like a repo or somthing of this nature where you get the car at all cost.

Also in a case liek his it is hydrolics. those are real easy to by pass with a very small amoun of know how.

Most have a resivor on them and there fore need hoses to get the juice to teh right place. Witch means there are lines going to each of he  pistons. If you hook it to the truck and set a jack stand under it and cut the lines the pistons wont hold the wit of the car and when you pick it up and take out the stands you could lower the car back down on the stands. this would cause them to colaps with no damage to the car or the pistons and then you could tow as normal.

So in short yes the idea in theroy would work but in reality it would be real tuff to make it fool proof.

if this dont get it they have what they call a crane wrecker out now. you litterly hook up straps that go under the car and pick i up from its wheels and set it on to the bed of the wrecker.

Just a word of advise if they want it they will get it. In most repos they have a release on it withc basicaly means they are not help responsabil for dameges done to recover the car. Most wreck seans are the same way.

other options would be hook up to it and wait you will come out eventually. and at tat poin would more then likly know your car is goign to go eather ya like it or not,

Just my opion

I would not spend the money on that. I fyou want to make your car tow proof .....

Sell it and start walking, that is a sing in the shop i worked at . belive me they are nuts when it comes to getting a car like this they love the challenges in gettign them :-)

It sounds more believable in a movie than in real life if you ask me. However, if you are not smoking on something strange and your mind is still functioning like a normal being. I say you can probably pay for a full year service for a tracking device on your vehicle at the same time increase you theif protection on your insurance premium for the price of one hydraulic and still have enough money to get yourself and your buddy a case of 24.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.Beat the Tow Truck? -- posted image.

Sounds like awaste of time. Use the money it takes to do that on paying your car note, and repo's shouldn't be an issue.

actually i think they funniest things w ever ran in to is they hooked up a logging chain tot he frame of one and then tied it off to a big tree. IT was funny as al get out when the guy came out to find us cutting threw his chain with the cutt off wheel .  they make some short work of chains.

Honestly the best thing i have see for someone that has a car they are nto goign to drive alot and want to make sure it is not stolen.

Take the wheels off of it and then set it on some blocks close to the ground and chain it to a eye bolt in the concrete.

this takes some planning nd also is not sometign most would do for a daily driver.

We can still get them with out the wheels with the dollies ut at teh same time throwing dollies takes some time and is not the most exciting ting to do. So we try not to .

But if it is a thief and they want it they will get it if they reserch it enough.

Case in point i had a 78 monte carlo i was making in to a 1.4 mile car,

They stole it and it didnt have a shifter in the car at all that was visibel but the car was driveabel. and it also had open headders on it.  the rear axel was up on blocks and so was teh front end.

they stole the car in one night and nobody knew it was gone tll the am. (i was driving over the road at the time) I recived a phone call to inform me my car was stolen.

point being is that the car was pretty secure and they still got it. but the only thing is they had to have a tow truck o get it so they didnt have to start it or they pushed for a long time every person living in a mile of my house hated that car as i used to work earlie mornnings and it was loud!!! so they knew it whenit started up.
