i just put my type r 12 in my truck. i built a sealed box for it going by the "optimal box dimentions" in the instrutions it comes with, ive got it wired in parallel to 2 ohms. i just thought it would hit harder then it is right now, esspecially because its in a sealed box. its hooked up to a sony mono d amp that runs 400 watts rms at 2 ohms so it should hit pretty good, anyone know why its not hitting as hard as i hoped?

Describe the box you built. Is it well sealed? What are it's dimentions?

the box is pretty much a square. 13"x13"x12.5" its what the sub calls for and its the way i built it. those are the outside dimentions. its sealed perfectly, silicone everywhere inside, cant feel any air coming out of it at all. used 3/4" mdf too, doubled the face just like you should.

How do you have the amp setup, what are the filters set to, etc?

I usually use 500 RMS for this woofer and even in a sealed box they get pretty loud. If your Sony is actually putting out 400 RMS the deference should be very slight , like 1db. I would try another brand of amp with a little bit better rep.

ive played with them a bit, ive got lpf, bass boost, and level, ive been playing with them a bit, and it seems like the sub is getting to many watts and is starting to snap a bit, and it shouldn't cause that amp is only rated 400 watts rms, per channel at 2ohms. and the sub handles well over 500 and its sealed, so it should take more power to make it hit hard, would i just have to break the sub in more? cause it is brand new?

"Snapping" you say? That sounds like the gain is up too high. Careful there. Shouldn't be playing with the level/ gain. That should be set once and not adjusted again. If you use the bass boost you will need to reset the gain, usually to a lower setting.

Where is the lpf set?

Wait, on your first post you said the amp was a "D" block which a single channel woofer amp. On your last post you said it was 400 watts " per channel" this is a big differance, which one is it? No, woofers don't need a break in period. and no this woofer should not be run with " well over 500 watts", it's rating from Alpine is 500 watts RMS max.
